A direct cremation is a practical, simple and affordable option, which allows the deceased to be cremated without any initial funeral service or procession. It allows, should you wish, for a memorial or remembrance to take place afterwards. This separates it from a ‘traditional cremation’ where a service takes place before the committal.
Direct cremations can often protect grieving families from excessive funeral costs or stress at a difficult time. Some choose this option because they do not conform to any religious beliefs, while others simply want to do things their way, perhaps in a particular place or on a significant date. Ultimately, the choice of a direct cremation is often a personal one and we take you through some of the more common reasons as to why you may choose a direct cremation.
Usually, the deceased is left within a hospital mortuary or is taken into care at a funeral directors premises until the cremation takes place. As we own all our own facilities, Simplicity Cremations would always bring the deceased into our care. Then at an unspecified time they are cremated in a simple coffin and the ashes are returned or scattered within the remembrance garden at the crematorium. There is not normally an option to visit the Chapel of Rest beforehand, nor to attend the committal.
Without paying for items such as transport, a minister and floral tributes to name but a few, costs are significantly lower. Additionally the crematoriums allow direct cremations only at certain times of the day, this flexibility allows them to utilise their facilities to their full capacity and lower costs as a result.
Not all direct cremations are the same. A Simplicity Cremation is a complete and straightforward service that is arranged directly over the phone, without the need to visit a funeral director and does not involve any formal ceremony or service. We will never compromise on our usual high standards and we will treat your loved one with care, ensuring they are granted a respectful and dignified goodbye. We also offer a 24 hour telephone bereavement service, because we understand that our clients often need as much attention as the loved one they have entrusted into our care.
