What exactly is Direct Cremation?

Direct cremation is a practical, alternative, and lower-cost option when compared to a traditional funeral service. The Deceased is first cremated without any initial service or procession. A memorial service can then be held, if desired, following the cremation, and at a time, date and location more convenient, and perhaps more fitting. In many cases, cost is not the main factor. The ability for families to "do their own thing" without feeling "pressured and driven by tradition" is often more important.....

Many people ask exactly how a direct cremation service differs from a "traditional" funeral service that is followed by cremation.

A direct cremation is the least expensive option, and is not openly available from many funeral directors.   Direct cremation is offered by us to answer the specific requests of families who choose the most simple, dignified and economical means of arranging their loved-one's departure.

Following completion of the initial necessary legal documents, our funeral director will visit you personally at your home address, and answer any questions you may have.   You will be given a fixed quotation for the arrangements, in writing, and the financial aspects are also usually progressed at this time.    Please be aware that this arrangement requires payment in full prior to the cremation taking place.

On receiving and accepting your instructions, we will arrange for the collection of the deceased, who will remain in our professional care right up to the actual cremation, which is held in private.

There is no service with the body present when a direct cremation is chosen.   Any service you arrange post-cremation is either a "memorial service", or may possibly be held at a strewing or interment of the ashes.

Direct cremation does not include any cortege, visitation period, or wake.

If you have chosen the Simplicity Plus arrangement, the cremated remains will be returned to you within 5-7 weekdays.  Otherwise, the ashes will be strewn in the crematorium grounds.

"Simplicity is actually the number one reason why people choose direct cremation".
